Our rating

If you're looking for a high-quality canister vacuum that is built to last and will help you easily remove any pet hair from your home, then the Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog is certainly up to the job.

Being a top-range product, it has many well designed high-quality features and fantastic cleaning performance. If you're only interested in good-quality engineering, durable materials, and functionality, then the German-engineered Miele vacuums are precisely what you want.

So what makes the Miele Blizzard CX1 one of our top choices and a popular choice for pet homes? Let's find out.

Key Features

1. Powerful Suction but Quiet Operation

First of all, the Blizzard CX1 boasts a Vortex technology that produces an airflow of 62 miles/h. This powerful suction ensures that both finer dust and heavier debris are all perfectly picked up.

The 4-stage rotary selector allows you to adjust the suction. On the floors and carpets, the maximum suction carefully pulls up heavier debris while the lower modes can be used for more delicate surfaces like furniture and dusting above-floor areas.

Although the vacuum has powerful suction, it is still very quiet. At 76dB, it is one of the quietest high-power vacuum cleaners on the market. Of course, this is excellent news for pet owners since many pets are scared by loud noises in the home. Not only does the vacuum have the power to remove stubborn pet hair, but it also does this in a quiet and pet-friendly way.

2. Easy to Use and Maneuver

The vacuum is lightweight, and it has four rubber wheels that turn 360 degrees and are gentle on the floor materials. The wheels allow the vacuum to move in any direction and make steering easy—no wobbling or getting stuck.

The power button for the motorized brush roll has been placed on top of the ergonomic wand so that you can easily turn it on and off while moving from one surface to another. The handle is comfortable, and the flexible swivel connector for the cord allows easy handling of the rod and cleaning head.

All in all, the Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog is a perfect choice if you have any mobility issues. Instead of having to pull and push a heavy upright vacuum or a flimsy canister vacuum on wonky wheels, this vacuum moves like a breeze and feels effortless to use.

3. Excellent Operating Radius

The vacuum has a 21-foot cord and a stretch hose to offer excellent reach. Altogether the full reach is 33 feet, which means you won't have to keep changing power outlets when moving from one room to another.

This feature is another reason we find the Miele Blizzard to be an easy-to-use and versatile vacuum. The long reach enables you to clean all sorts of surfaces like car seats and stairs– even if the power outlet is not close by.

4. Park system and cord retractor

The vacuum also has a holder for the wand on the side of the main unit. It enables you to park the vacuum while moving furniture or picking up the clutter out of the way without having to bend down to place the wand on the floor. A small feature that still makes vacuuming so much more comfortable.

There is another holder for holding the wand in the upright position when you put the vacuum away. This feature allows for compact and convenient storing of the appliance.

Another small yet important feature is the cord retractor, which pulls in the cord with a push of the foot pedal. Again, something to make vacuuming quicker and more comfortable.

Filtration

This vacuum is an excellent choice for those who love bagged vacuums because they are easy and hygienic to clean but don't like the environmental issues and costs of continually having to buy new dust bags.

The large 2-liter dust bin has an innovative separation feature that separates coarse dirt and fine dust to prevent wafting smaller particles into the air when emptying the bin.

Only the bigger debris and coarse dirt are stored in the see-through bin. This container should be emptied when it's full by opening the bottom to let the dirt fall into a trash bin. Because all the finer dust has been guided to a separate filter, emptying the large dirt bin won't cause a dust cloud to be puffed into the air.

When you vacuum, fine dust is guided to the Gore CleanStream fine dust filter. About twice a year, the Comfort Clean light on the top of the vacuum will light up to let you know it's time to clean the dust filter. You just add a little water, shake the container with the filter inside, and pour out the dirty water. Then let the filter dry completely, and it's ready to be used again.

This feature is very beneficial from people suffering from asthma or dust allergies because none of that fine dust or dander gets wafted back into the air when the dirt bin is emptied. It will keep your air cleaner and more hygienic.

Performance

The Miele Blizzard CX1 does very well on low to medium pile carpets. The brush roll on the carpet head is powerful, and it deep cleans most carpets. However, it may struggle with some of the most challenging rugs that are very dense and difficult to clean thoroughly.

For hardwood, parquet, laminate, or tile floors, you can either just turn off the Power Head brush roll from the main cleaning head and use the powerful suction for cleaning, or switch to the flexible Twister Parquet head.

The softer cleaning head has natural bristles, which are very gentle on delicate floor materials and the swivel head turns effortlessly to vacuum between and around furniture.

You can see the high-quality German engineering when it comes to the cleaning path of the main cleaning head. The suction is not guided only to the middle of the attachment; instead, it can pull in dirt and dust in from the sides, ensuring a perfectly clean result right up to the edge of the wall.

Attachments

The Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog comes with two floors heads: Parquet Twister Floorhead and Electro Plus Floorhead.

The Electro Plus Floorhead can be considered the main cleaning head because it can be used on both carpets and hard floors. It has a powerful spinning brush roll for cleaning carpets, but the handle has a switch for quickly turning it on and off when you move from one surface to another.

The brush roll head is a bit bulkier than we would like, but this will only be a problem if you have very low-built furniture. Also, although the cleaning head performs well on low to medium-pile carpets, very thick high-pile carpets may prove a challenge for this vacuum– as with most other vacuums as well.

The Parquet Twister Floorhead is low-profile with an easy-to-use swivel head. It's very smoothly maneuvered across floors and between and under furniture. This cleaning head works very well on all kinds of hard floor materials removing pet hair, dust, and even bigger debris.

What we love about both cleaning heads is the design that allows them to clean right up to the edge. Dirt is not collected and allowed to form that greyish gunk by the walls because the vacuum effectively picks up dust right up to the edge of the baseboard.

The set of attachments also includes an integrated dusting brush, upholstery brush, and a crevice tool. All the attachments are conveniently stored at the back of the vacuum, ensuring they are not lost and always at hand when needed.

Pet owners also want to see a motorized brush roll tool for the furniture, and Miele has, of course, kindly added one to the package. The Handheld Mini Turbo brush is perfect for keeping those upholstered pieces of furniture, car seats, and carpeted stairs free of pet hair and other dirt.

Summing Up

All in all, the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog is a fine addition to the Miele family of top-notch vacuums.

If you don't want a flimsy canister vacuum that will last only a couple of years, you should choose Miele. And if you have allergies or you want to keep your indoor air clean and hygienic for other reasons, then the Blizzard CX1 is what you're looking for.

We love the fact that this canister vacuum makes vacuuming easy and effortless while providing excellent results. The engineers at Miele have paid attention to details, ensuring the product is functional, practical, and useful.

Like with any products, there are a couple of small shortcomings. However, with all the benefits and strong points this vacuum has, it definitely is one of our top choices.
